Pseudomonas infection symptoms and prevention

Pseudomonas infection is an infection caused by Pseudomonas bacteria, especially Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Pseudomonas causes a less serious infections in healthy people, which is called the Ear Swimmer (Swimmer's Ear, External Otitis) and Folliculitis Hot-tub.

Swimmer's ear (swimmer'S EAR, OTITS external)

Is the outer ear canal infections due to long exposure to fresh water. Can be treated with antibiotic ear drops.

Folliculitis HOT-TUB

Is a skin rash consisting of small acne, some of which contain pus. Treatment of keeping the skin remains dry and sometimes smeared with antibiotic ointment.

CAUSE
Pseudomonas bacteria, especially Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Serious Pseudomonas infections often occur in hospitals and bacteria usually found in damp areas, such as sinks and urine containers. In fact, these organisms are found in certain antiseptic solution. The most serious infections occur in people whose immune system is compromised, either due to treatment or disease.

Pseudomonas can infect the blood, skin, bones, ears, eyes, urinary tract, heart valves and lungs. Burns can also be infected by Pseudomonas, causes blood infections that often prove fatal.

SYMPTOMS
Symptoms depend on the affected body part, but these infections tend to be heavy:

Malignant external otitis, an ear infection, can cause severe ear pain and nerve damage and often occurs in people with diabetes.
After entering through a wound in the eye, Pseudomonas can cause ulceration of the eye, contaminating the eye lens and lens fluid.
Pseudomonas infections can be found in deep puncture wounds, especially puncture wounds in children's feet.
Pseudomonas can cause severe pneumonia in patients treated in hospitals, especially in intensive care. The bacteria type is also a cause of urinary tract infections, in people who undergo urological procedures or patients with blockage of the urinary tract.
In patients with burns and cancer, bacteria often enter the blood. Without treatment, severe infections can cause shock and death. This infection often causes a rash area purplish black with a diameter of about 1 cm, with a scab in the center surrounded by local redness and swelling. The rash is often present in the armpits and groin.
Although rare, Pseudomonas can infect the heart valves, especially on artificial heart valves. But the native heart valves can also be infected, especially in users of injected drugs.

Diagnosis
Diagnosis based on symptoms. To confirm the diagnosis, could be breeding in the laboratory from blood samples and skin scrapings.

TREATMENT
If the infection is confined to the outer areas such as skin, dead tissue and the abscess is large, then the removal through surgery, then moistened with antibiotic solution. Malignant otitis externa, infection of internal organs and blood infections require intravenous antibiotic treatment (through a vein) for several days or several weeks.

Sometimes the infected heart valves can be treated with antibiotics, but often need heart surgery to replace valves that have been damaged.
