Gonorrhea causes and prevention

Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae that infect the lining of the urethra, cervix, rectum, and throat or the whites of the eye (conjunctiva).

Gonorrhea can be spread through the bloodstream to other body parts, especially the skin and joints. In women, gonorrhea can ascend to infect the genital tract and the lining inside the pelvis, causing pelvic pain and reproductive problems.


CAUSE
The bacteria Neisseria gonorrhoeae.


SYMPTOMS
In men, early symptoms usually occur within 2-7 days after infection. Symptoms began as discomfort in the urethra, which a few hours later followed by a pain when urinating and a discharge of pus from the penis. Patients with frequent urination and feel the urge to urinate, which gets worse as the disease spreads to the upper urethra. The hole looks red and swollen penis.

In women, early symptoms can occur within 7-21 days after infection. Patients women often have no symptoms for weeks or months, and is known to suffer from this disease only after acquiring sexual partners. If symptoms develop, usually mild. But some people with severe symptoms, such as the urge to urinate, pain when urinating, vaginal discharge and fever.

Infections can invade the cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, urethra and rectum; causes pain in the pelvis or pain during sexual intercourse. Pus that comes out can be derived from the cervix, urethra or glands around the vaginal opening.

Women and homosexual men who have sex through the anus can suffer from gonorrhea in the rectum. Patients do not feel comfortable around her anus and rectum out of the liquid. The area around the anus looks red and rough, stool covered by mucus and pus. On examination with anaskop will appear mucus and fluid in patients with rectal wall.

If the infected fluid on the eye then it could happen outside of the eye infection (conjunctivitis gonorrhea). Newborns can be infected by gonorrhea from their mothers during labor, resulting in swelling of his eyelids and pus out of her eyes.

In adults, it could happen the same symptoms, but often only one eye is affected. If the infection is not treated blindness can occur.


COMPLICATIONS
Infection sometimes spreads through the bloodstream to one or several joints, where the joints become swollen and very painful, so that its movement is limited. Infection through the bloodstream also can cause red spots on the skin containing pus, fever, malaise or pain in multiple joints that move from one joint to another joint (arthritis-dermatitis syndrome).

Infection can occur heart (endocarditis). Infection wrapping liver (perihepatitis) may cause pain that resembles a gall bladder disorder. Complications that occur can be treated and rarely fatal, but the cure for arthritis or endocarditis was slow.
